In 2023, the artistic eventGroovin’up, previously supported by Majid, was renewed. This initiative, both artistic and educational, aims to support young jazz talents from underprivileged social backgrounds. Majid covered the transport and accommodation costs in Ascona for Saskia Walker, a student from Loyola University in New Orleans.
Alongside other students from the school, Saskia performed with the Loyola University Ensemble, directed for the occasion by double bassist Prof. Amina Scott,in a series of musical events during the ten days of the Festival, some held at Majid Foundation’s premises.
Groovin’up aims to provide these young musicians with an opportunity to grow artistically in the vibrant and musically rich environment of JazzAscona, aligning with Majid’s enthusiasm to continue supporting this cultural initiative.
