Originally approved by the Foundation’s Board for the previous year but unfortunately canceled due to the cancellation of JazzAscona, the Groovin’up project finally took place in 2022. As part of this event, for which Majid acted as patron, events were organized to promote young jazz musicians with troubled pasts from Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany, and the United States, in collaboration with Tulane University of New Orleans.
During its 10-day span, 15% of JazzAscona’s concerts were linked to the Groovin’up project, totaling 44 musical events. Additionally, numerous workshops on musical improvisation and concert rehearsals took place at Maison Majid, temporarily converted into an improvised auditorium open to the public free of charge. The concert “Ear we go”, featuring members of the New Orleans NGO playing alongside the Ticino Band Federation under the direction of Romandy musician Gilles Repond, broadcast by RSI Rete 2, was awarded the Ascona Jazz Award 2022.
