In 2019, the Locarno Film Festival launched the Spring Academy, a workshop born within the festival’s spring event “L’immagine e la parola”. The Spring Academy is aimed at emerging young filmmakers, offering them the unique opportunity to create a personal short film set in the region, under the guidance of a renowned international director. The 2022 edition of this training project, focused on supporting youth creativity, saw the participation of about ten young filmmakers, including Agnese Laposi from Ticino, born in 1995.
Majid’s contribution enabled Agnese to take part in this important initiative, where she worked on her film project under the expert guidance of Italian director Michelangelo Frammartino, mentor of the 2022 Spring Academy. Her work was later screened during the 75th edition of the Locarno Film Festival. Thanks to Majid’s support, this talented emerging director further refined her skills toward achieving full artistic independence, gaining an exclusive opportunity for visibility at a prestigious international event.
In this way, the Majid Foundation reiterated its sensitivity towards cinema, as it had already done the previous year by granting a small contribution to an open-air film series held at SpazioElle in Locarno, and through the Cinema e Filosofia series, in collaboration with Collegio Papio of Ascona, the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University of Milan, the PHILM Philosophy and Cinema Research Center, and Orizzonti Filosofici.

In my career as a director, the Spring Academy represented an important moment of encounter, creation, and collaboration with the Locarno Festival. Furthermore, the year following this experience, I had the opportunity to show my work at the Foundation’s premises during a special screening organized by Majid.”
