The Fondazione Majid in Ascona is delighted to announce the art project “Musicisti & Corpi in Movimento” by the acclaimed Swiss artist Alvaro Stoppa, which will run from 1 to 29 November 2026.
His new solo exhibition “Musicisti & Corpi in Movimento” pays tribute to the timeless luminosity of music and movement.
Alvaro Stoppa, born in Muralto in 1963 and now living in Bellinzona, has always combined music and painting. Introduced to the accordion by his grandfather, he went on to study piano, music theory and harmony at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, and taught music for almost forty years. Since 1991 he has worked almost exclusively in acrylic on canvas. Since 2009 he has focused on two subjects: portraits of great performers of classical music, from Karajan to Abbado and from Rubinstein to Argerich, and the moving bodies of dance. Seventeen portraits of Herbert von Karajan bear witness to his admiration for the great conductor. In his painting, music becomes image: colour, whether faithful or reimagined, serves to capture the expressiveness of gesture. It is painting to be listened to as well as looked at.
Don’t miss this opportunity to admire and discover the artworks of Maestro Alvaro Stoppa in a truly unmissable exhibition.
